So used a spare Samsung LCD LTM200KT03 screen I had lying around and built a frame around it with the intent of using Ikea Ribba frame to go around the the entire thing. I thought I could add film to the Ribba picture frame but it turns out that it doesn’t have glass just plastic which wouldn’t stick to the film well at all. I ended up ordering a Two-Way Mirrored Acrylic - Clear 3 mm Thick, 500 mm Wide, 700 mm Long, Color: Clear – 146 from here:https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/cut_to_size_plastic/two_way_mirrored_acrylic/558 and it looks great. I even used a hacksaw blade glued to the top of the frame so I could put magnets in the Ikea frame for easy removal. However, with it off I can see the MM fine but with it on it’s very dim and really only useable at night. I’ve moved the screen to where it get’s less reflections but no real joy. The monitor is as bight and contrast as it will go. What are my options? Pictures below. https://imgur.com/a/cOpHjex

Very nice mirror. I really like the framing as well as your content choices. I’m working on copying some of what you did… I successfully installed the before-current-next month calendars. I figured out how to copy what you did with the ‘extra’ days on the beginning and end of each month. What I can’t seem to get going is how to have only the current month’s current day highlighted. Pointer? Please.

@Cr4z33 - I can do better than guess. I bought it from www.twowaymirrors.com. They have a rep, @twowaymirrors who is on this forum every so often. They were great and I pretty much only use them at this point. It’s their 50% transmission model, I think. I’d have to check the receipt.

@bachoo786 Hello thanks! Unfortunately there is no video or guide how i made it, but i can answer you of any question about this process. The rest of the mirror is covered by black foil 3M. About the question for the dielectric mirror, i cannot make a difference between two way mirror and dielectric because this is my first project and i never used before two way mirror:)

Thanks, I know I couldn’t get the monitor to be less bright, so depending on the angle and the distance you can see shining through

@supersook - There are a few tools that can do this. I would recommend a router with a flush trim bit. Pull the acrylic out and very carefully lay it along the edge of a scrap piece of wood (a sheet of something would be ideal). The amount you want to remove from the acrylic should overhand the support sheet. Clamp it down good & hard. Set the depth so that the bearing rides along the support sheet and the bit trims the acrylic. Go fairly briskly as acrylic likes quick cuts. Slow cuts will have the bit rub against the acrylic and melt it. You may wish to practice on scrap a couple times first.

I built the first MagicMirror back in 2008, and it’s been duplicated a bunch of times over the years. i was happy to help with a lot of early projects, then kind of stepped away to work on other interactive things. This is my first outing: [https://youtu.be/dAI9mF_cBu0?t=8](link url) It actually bankrolled my New York based interactive company all those years ago and I went on to build Mirrors for all kinds of customers, big and small. It was a really fun chapter in my life. Trivia #1 : I did not use one-way acrylic mirrors bc they cut too much light and the brightest displays in 2007 was a plasma tv (super hot to the touch), and even that look like it had dark car tint on it. LED and Oled were not invented yet. Even lcd projectors hadn’t come into their own yet. the only bright ones were gigantic arena projectors. Trivia #2 : IR touchframes from companies like PQ Labs and Zaagtech did not yet exist. we had to build our own… up to that point all my touch work was camera based using touchlib and openCV, but ofcourse, blob tracking would not work with this type of set up. Hell, even the arduino was not yet on the scene, doing interactive tech was pretty challenging.

Hi. I have now managed to set up my first MM2 on a HP Z32 in portrait mode and so far all good. Since the setup I am playing around with fine tuning and I tried various fonts. To be honest I didnt find a really nice one which can be used in a moderate big size but which does not interfere with the other modules due to the size (meaning, that I dont have to resize the font or modules to have the full entries displayed without being wrapped). Long story short :-) What fonts are you using on your mirror? Picture would be nice. Cheers Pat
