Ijon really did an absolutely incredible job :) I basically only gave him the technical parts and a VESA mounting bracket (http://www.pearl.de/a-PX2528-1256.shtml, with additional weight distribution via https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B008KL739C/) plus my idea of how it’s supposed to stack together, and he took it from there; creating CAD drawings, selecting and sourcing the wood after discussing the type with me, always keeping me in the loop while working on it. What a fun project! I’m using MagicMirror a little differently - not as a mirror, but as a component of my home automation system. MM runs on a Pi that is connected to my AV receiver/distribution system, and it broadcasts content to five or six different TVs/monitors all around the house. This all started because my home automation setup includes an alarm clock - at the specified time, various lights through the house slowly ramp up from zero, and the bedroom TV (and others) turn on and play streaming music. I was using an Apple TV as the source for that, but when it streams music the video just displays either album artwork or a screensaver. I wondered if I could maybe have the screens display some more useful information - especially a weather forecast - and stumbled on MM. My home automation server software (Indigo Domotics) publishes HTML “control pages” which can display status information for anything it can contact/control. That’s how I get the door lock status and inside temperature (from the thermostat); it displays in MM using iFrame. The automation server runs a radio tuner app called Radium and an Apple AirPlay tool called Airfoil to stream SiriusXM to a client app installed on the Pi that is running MM; the server pulls track/artist info and puts that in a different control page enclosed as an iFrame. I’ll probably make a few more layout tweaks - had to increase the font size on pretty much everything since it’s usually viewed from a distance.

Computer Engineering student here. Needed to work on a project for my Microcontroller class. So, originally, I was going to use RP3 for something else. Unfortunately, after hours of trying, I was tired of trying to get my project to work. Then my wife comes into the office complaining about wanting a new mirror upstairs in our bedroom. I did a quick google search for a mirror and since I had been working on my RP3, Google decided to be a bro and throw some SmartMirror photos in there. It jogged my memory about seeing a post on the RP forums about the MagicMirror and I did another search. Now I have a quickly done final project. … For now. I have plenty to add. I spent about 10 hours on this. Working out the modules, APIkeys I needed, margins (thanks again, @strawberry-3-141) and how I wanted things to look. I had an old monitor laying around and decided to use it for the time being. It would not go in my final product to make for the wife. This one was a simple proof-of-concept for the class project. Originally, I purchased a glass pane from Lowe’s and was going to build a frame/box seeing as I enjoy working with wood. I purchased a shadow box from Hobby Lobby for $20 because all I really needed to do was to add the mirror film and put everything inside. It had the depth I needed for the monitor and internals. Bought film off Amazon to add to the glass. It may have imperfections, but it’ll get the job done until I purchase an actual mirror/plexi for the full-body for the wife. I want to turn the real deal into my senior design project to add quite a few more features. PIR sensor for dimming purposes Touch screen A “button” on the screen that will turn on LED strips for mirror lighting, tap it and they turn on A pop-up keyboard The ability to create a tasks list (Wunderlist module) but being able to add things from the mirror A few of these would be easier to implement than others, but worth a shot. Thank you, the hole at the bottom of the mirror, and use a PIR detector, it only detects when you find it in front of the mirror. For the photos, I work with the module MMM instagram, because I unfortunately did not succeed in making the other work. I still have some configuration problem, I would like to succeed in increasing the size of the photos, and also increase the font of writing … I can not do it. So I finally got the time to sit down and bang this thing out. Went with reflective film on glass due to crazy cost of 2 way mirrors in Australia. There are a few really small air bubbles and at some point I’ll look to reapply and spend a bit more time to make it more perfect. happy with the finished product and now to look into motion sensor and adding timing for it to turn off/on at set times. @wjdw87 At a guess, it looks like the package manager npm is not installed on your Mac.

As far as I know currently you’d need to install some other things to make it work

Hey guys! Here’s my mirror: It’s a mirror with a 27’’ display. I wrote a blog post about my mirror here. You can find some more pictures and a more or less detailed explanation of how I built it. :) I also added a detailed list of the parts to the blog post and added some links to where I bought them. I used WAGO connectors for the wiring - to save space in the body. Glad you guys like it. :) @Mitchfarino Yes, I use that too, but mostly to show/hide the XKCD or to restart the whole thing. For a shutdown the physical button is my new way to go.
