  • Paul's frameless MM- finally done :)

    Dear guys,
I am finally done with my first MM2- project.
Thank you very much for your great support and ideas to finish this project.

There are only a few things left to work on:

    • fix some errors with the DHT22-sensor
    • find a GitHub module which shows the whole month with every iCal-entry. Also find the right positioning for it. I would like to position it in the Top/middle space (not top_bar, Ive tried it already :D ).
    • enable wifi-connection. This hunts me since several months :D I still have no clue where the error is and how to fix it.
    • find a Github module which enables me to send push -up notifications to the mirror. e.g. a friend goes into my room, looks a the running mirror and the mirror says something like "Hello XY, my name is Henry. It’s nice to meet you, you fag :D )

    Best regards, Paul
You will find attached to this topic a few pictures.

  • Paul's second mirror :)

    Dear fellow MM-builders,
I would like to show you the build to my second MagicMirror.
Unfortunately the glas broke during a move to another city, so I decided that it was time for a second try.

This time I used following parts:

    • picture frame Ribba from IKEA 50cm*70cm
–> it includes a neat passepartout which was useful to hide some of the cracks in the mirror
      -24" monitor Acer KA241bid
–> a cheap monitor which is also very thin and has a HDMI output

    • then I 've cut some of the parts of my old mirror which weren’t cracked
–> I used a glas cutting tool and watched a lot of DIY youtube videos on how to cut glas, because I not such a craftsman :-D

    • If you want a more cheap solution instead of buying an actual mirror, you can use the Polycarbonat plat which is included in the Ribba frame from IKEA and use silver reflection folie

    • a short HDMI cable

    • for wifi connection I used the CSL - 300 Mbit/s USB 2.0 WLAN
–> you just have to install the software from CSL (raspberry Pi needs a LAN connection) after that its super easy :)

    • a wall mount

    • wood from the local store as well as screws

    • male to female wires

    • a DHT22-Sensor as well as a PIR sensor

I was a lot of fun putting it all together and doing a little bit of programming by myself.
As always, you guys helped me a lot in doing so!

    Thank you very much :)

@strawberry-3-141 @Jopyth Thank you very much for your help.

    My error was following one:

Now, I ve fixed it in “http://192.168 …”

–> It’s the small things that matter, I guess :D

    Thanks a lot.

  • RE: Unable to install dependencies, NPM install not working

@cpramhofer I did everything from the scratch :-D

    1. Reformation the SD Card
    2. Copying the Software to the SD Card.
    3. Installing everything
    4. Installing the MM2 Software via the link on Michaels website

–> Conclusion: No no problem more :D

  • RE: PIR sensor behind glass?

    @Comunnity

If it comes to the thickness of the mirror: Would you either recommend webcams, etc, behind the mirror or as I thought create a CAD-print plan for a 3 D-printer to hide the camera behind a… actually I have no clue how to call it … a “string” of maybe a lamp?

Do you guys have recommendations or Best Practices?

I saw some awesome bathroom project in this forum but no one 3D printed his lamp or LED. My roommate has a 3D printer so I am thinking about to integrated a camera in one part of an LED lamp which is on top of the mirror.

Maybe someone tried this idea before me. Hope there are some Best Practices on how to do it.

As always I would like to thank you for your awesome feedback guys.

    Kind regard from Hamburg, Germany,

    Paul
