@mykle1 ok. Anyway. I had not seen the pics from the mobile .
I think I will finally settle for a raspiecam and embed it in the frame .
Quality is ok. And lens small.
Glass: either guldjugz or mirroview 50 50
I started updating my mirror the other day and thought I’d share what I built 2 years ago. I needed somewhere to put my stuff and hang some clothes, so why not a combo around a 19" old monitor
First I created a box around the monitor, with a shelf and some aluminum pipes for hanging clothes.
A frame around the front to cover the edges of the monitor.
I just bought the new S7 back then so a NFC charger was a necessity. I was a big fan of the Pebble watches and backed all their projects so I also made a charger for the Core thingy that was the last thing that got cancelled on Kickstarter before Fitbit bought and “shut Pebble down”.
This is how I attached the oak-charger to the main module
Front panel with 1 USB for charging, 1 USB connected to the Pi and a sensor to turn on monitor.
Need to be able to hang it on the wall
Ready for some paint, oil and wiring
Happy with the result!
Time to fit the monitor and the touchscreen that I already put the film on. I have no pictures on that procedure, and that is good because I totally messed the film up so the mirror is now a little skew on some places and looks like the funny mirror house on the tivoli. Though it makes me smile every morning!
And finally fit everything in it
The result when done.
It’s now 2 years later and I just changed the monitor as it broke down, so I have also reinstalled the software and will now add, speakers, cam, microphone, Alexa and some homeautomation if possible. Thanks for checking my mirror out.
To be updated…
@kruemel is it possible to make pic for me? Adn, I’ve never been playing with any HW module - how to connect the module? There are some “cables” or I’ve to “create” them?
P.S.: nice job…
Very nice work. I like the look of your mirror and will try to make somethign similar.
May i ask if you have any advice on improvements since since then?
And also what is the purpose of the webcam on the mirror?
thnks in advance for your help
If you don’t want to build your own frame and want to minimise the effort in stripping your monitor back maybe my project can help provide some inspiration?
https://www.nonosesmiley.com/2018/06/magic-mirror-ikea-frame-hack.html has the details.
Here are a few photos
and what it looks like today
@sdetweil Yeah the Pi-Top is pretty neat! It’s a bit cheaper to make your own enclosure and add your own screen/power button, but not by much… It really depends on how much time you want to spend on those parts.
How much did you pay for the “Glass Trösch” oneway-mirror?
I live in Zurich too and thinking about building a smart mirror. Not exactly sure with frame I’m going to take. Nissedal or Ribba from Ikea.
I am Nikhil from Pune. I am planning to make the magic mirror. I have got everything from amazon except the acrylic mirror. Can you please tell me where did you buy the mirror? what do they call to the see through acrylic mirror in India? at what price did you get the mirror?
