I put in an order for a piece of ‘smart mirror’ after ordering a number of samples. The Smart Mirror option is really cool. Much better than the other options. The issue … it is expensive. It is being delivered today. I am planning on having everything wrapped up, installed, additional border added, location for momentary switch, etc, etc finalized by the weekend.

Hey @Messel I have used your built as inspiration, and it is basically done. However there is one problem that is plaguing me and I don’t know how to solve it and that is light bleeding in the corners. [image: 1660503116965-img_5654-2-resized.jpeg] I saw in your pictures that you partly have the same issues however it seems not as bad as for me. Did you do anything to get rid of this cross like optics? I tried a lot from closing the corners with duct tape to little wooden blockers in the frame etc. but nothing seems to work really. For a bit more context, there are lightstrips facing the wall. Most of it is under opaque cove. Also you can see my experiments blocking some of the corners with tape [image: 1660503274009-img_5656-1-resized.jpeg]

@SJK this is very cool! This method could be used for an eInk type display. It’s really making me think those old pi zeros could be very useful again.

My first Magic Mirror build using a recycled 19’’ TFT monitor. [image: 1656448321403-magic_mirror_final_cropped.png] You can read a super detailed guide to building a Magic Mirror, including tips for setting up your JavaScript development environment, how I calculated the measurements for the different frame components, and even download my 3d modeling files for the mirror housing here: https://fairhurst.dev/portfolio/mirror You can view the configurations for my modules here: https://github.com/fairhurst-dev/MagicMirror My housing design consisted of the frame, followed by the two-way glass and monitor stacked on top of each other. This stack was surrounded by the dummy box and finally a plywood back board was attached to the back. [image: 1656445962688-labeled_exploded_view.png] I created a frame and dummy box using two 3-in x 6-ft pine boards. Then I attached the two-way glass to the back of the frame with silicone glue. [image: 1656446192723-frame_with_glass.png] I secured the monitor inside the dummy box and flat against the glass using four 4-in corner braces. [image: 1656446753533-corner_brackets.png] I attached the dummy box to the frame back using 1.5-in corner brackets. [image: 1656446564759-side_view.png] The plywood backboard was attached using 2-in corner brackets, followed by a French cleat to allow the entire unit to hang on the wall, no stud needed![image: 1656446633680-french_cleat_plywood.jpeg] Lastly, I used cable ties to organize the cords behind the monitor and velcro squares to secure the power boxes and Raspberry Pi to the back of the monitor[image: 1656446919463-velcro_squares.png][image: 1656447201022-back_view.png] Enjoy the build, and please reach out with any questions! https://fairhurst.dev

@OberfragGER sure, here you go, still WIP, I need to fix 2 borders and decide if I want to paint it black. the camera from the playstation move is deactivated, I removed everything and try to use the mic array inside the frame. I want to use it for voice stuff, but honestly the touch frame with MMM-Touch is already awesome to control. the PI Cam should be used for face recognition & photo booth fun with guests. also I try to add PS3 Controllers and use the Screen as a retro game console in the kitchen.

I’ve created something I think is really awesome: I call it the HAL Pi-Thousand. [image: 1644591850231-hal-pi.jpg] A Pi 4b, a USB WebCam/Mic combo, two touchscreen displays, the native RasPi 7" and a decent 10.1" I found on Amazon, a nice picture frame, a powered USB Hub on the side, and of course a HAL 9000 model. And a wireless keyboard/trackpad combo for control, or a VNC connection once it’s fully completed and no longer right at my computer desk. Here’s my question: it has two displays. I had thought to find some way to make a sort of ten to fifteen-virtual button interface for the bottom one, assuming there’s a way to do that at the Newbie/kinda-interested-but-no-Python-experience-to-speak-of stage. Alternately, I’d like to give it a second Magic Mirror for the bottom display, you know, have a bit more info on display. It’d have to be a second incarnation of MM, because the two are slightly different sizes, which apparently is enough to prevent the MM on the 10" display from extending through to the 7". So, does this sound in any way doable? Or on the other hand, is there some way to get MM to extend to the 7 after all? Or on the other other hand… [image: 1644592534539-arex.jpg] is there some relatively idiot-resistant way to set up those virtual buttons I mentioned, either in MM or some other app? This is what I had in mind for the virtual buttons: [image: 1644592686006-akrales_181005_2999_0155.jpg] See, I got the idea for the overall layout and design from something I found while playing the Google lottery: a company had planned to sell a sort of Alexa/HAL thing a few years ago, but it never got off the ground beyond the example stage. Also, the thing would have cost about $1,000, which not a lot of folks would be ready to pony up, no matter how cool it looks. I’d considered trying to find some light-up buttons for the lower section early on, but didn’t see anything that was quite right, and besides I already had the 7". Plus, this way it can have more functions than just being a button section. I figure it’d be a good place to use for a Teams or other video area (did I mention this runs Teams? Well, it runs Teams. And I’m hoping to incorporate Alexa or Google Assistant or that Voice thing in the 3rd party section, but that’s another subject), so a graphical Virtual button setup seems the way to go. Anyway, that’s where I’m at right now. So, any thoughts on these options, guys? Run a second MM, extend the first MM, Virtual buttons, or maybe virtual buttons at the bottom of an extended MM? I appreciate any advice from People Who Know Stuff. Thanks
