    • RE: MMM-doomsDay - The countdown module,

      @broberg

      i just checked before running off to work. Yesterday, I set a an event for today so that I could see the end result but the module still displays “1 Day Left” as it does in the picture above. The only thing I changed in the sample config was the date of the event and what it should say when the event arrived. I left the time untouched as you suggested. I have a short work day today so I’ll take a look at it when I get home

      nah they are not. Just single sided mirrors for now.

      Oh, you meant the style. I went with the frame as well. I’m thinking the frameless mirror would have to be recessed for full effect. I don’t know what to tell you about how long it will take to load the Pi. I had to learn virtually everything, having had no experience with much of what I as dealing with. If, however, you’re comfortable with linux and such, you’ll certainly have less trouble and devote less time to it than I did.

    • RE: Wires at back of Monitor too short

      @johnnyboy

      Because you like hearing from me and like dropping my name

      You know, if you build a frame that extends past the edge of the box that will contain the monitor, you can effectively hide the joystick and not have to johnnyboy around with the wiring. :wink:

      Now, looking at your pictures closely, (I counted the 8 wires and the 8 pins) I would say that each of the eight wires of the harness connect to only one pin each via the clip connector on both the monitor circuit board and the joystick circuit board. With that, and IMHO, I would say that you can lengthen each wire, being careful to match the gauge of the wire as closely as possible. Also, being careful to splice the correct wires to each other. I would use shrinkwrap/crimp connectors for the splicing for proper connection and insulation.

      Seeing as you’ll only be extending these wires a few inches (from what I can see) you won’t encounter any resistance problems or degradation in performance of the joystick.

      Peace bro . . .

      @broberg said in MMM-doomsDay - The countdown module,:

      Quick and dirty, try it, should work.

      Simple and elegant, I did, it does.

      Actually, I think you must have read my mind. I toyed with another module that has a burning candle. The name escapes me, but it was a countdown type module. Nice, but not for me. However, your module is just what I was looking for. It’s running now as a test for tomorrow but I can already tell you that this module is here to stay in my setup. I like that it doesn’t demand a lot of screen real estate and I am delighted that you included the css file so I don’t have to ask how to modify it in the forums.

      I’m a fan! Thanks for another perfect addition to my mirror.

      So? Where to share the config.js?

      I don’t know. I guess anywhere you’re allowed to. I was just voicing my opinion. I posted a request in the General Discussion category with my idea. The administrators and moderators here are absolutely brilliant. I’m sure they will have even better ideas than mine. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t already have their own ideas for something like this.

    • Do you play requests?

      I’ve seen that there is some chatter lately about organizing, adding, combining, deleting some Categories and Sub-Categories on the forums by the administrators/moderators. I like the idea of having a place to post complete config.js files but it is my humble opinion (not that it matters) that the “Show Your Mirror” category isn’t the best place for that. As a once, and still current noob, I would never have considered looking in the “Show Your Mirror” category for config help.

      Take the category, CUSTOM CSS, for instance. That’s pretty obvious for the person looking for css help, if not Troubleshooting, in general. That’s just one example.

      Again, in my humble opinion, it would be easier for people that are ready and willing to share their entire configs, and those people that are looking for examples of complete configs (with mirror picture showing the results) if there were a category similar to the CUSTOM CSS category. Perhaps, as @cowboysdude so aptly put it, a “Share Your Config” category.

      I wish I would have seen such a category when I first joined the forum. It would have made a huge difference to have actually seen what a proper config looks like, and a picture of the outcome.

      That being said, this forum , as it is, is my favorite place to be (when online). Well done, gentlemen. :thumbsup_tone1:

      Peace

    • Revelation! A "Duh" moment with NetworkScanner module.

      So, I really like the NetworkScanner module, and being new to all this, I struggled early with much of the knowledge that was necessary to complete my mirror. (That’s another story) Now that it’s done I spend my time looking for ways to make it more unique.

      When I first came across this line in the ReadMe I was confused about the FONT-AWESOME-ICON entry.
      ‘’'{ macAddress: “aa:bb:cc:11:22:33”, name: “DEVICE-NAME”, icon: “FONT-AWESOME-ICON”}
      Was the author calling the icons awesome? Shrug. Yes, I was that green.

      And later I learned from the sample config that substituting “laptop, mobile, desktop, etc” for the FONT-AWESOME-ICON entry would get me the nice little icon next to the device name. Sweet, right? Well, I still hadn’t gotten there. Sure, laugh it up. These are major victories for me.

      Then the lights came on (figuratively). What if? No! It couldn’t be that easy, could it? I googled FONT-AWESOME-ICON and I came up with http://fontawesome.io/icons/. There they were. Of course. “DUH!”

      So, now there’s
      “futbol-o” (soccer ball) as the icon for my son, Baby Jesus. Don’t ask! (his name is Michael)
      “globe” (earth) for me, BottlePop. Don’t ask!
      “venus” (astrological symbol) for my wife, Donna. (Take my wife. Please, take my wife)
      “medkit” for my daughter, Dove, who is a Physician’s Assistant
      “fire-extinguisher” for my son-in-law, Jason. He is a NYC Fireman
      “coffee” for my other daughter, Nikki, who never seems to be without a coffee

      I love this module and I really enjoy this forum. Thanks to all who make it possible.
