Now the very last part of this project is making the frame/mirror assembly to seat the monitor and RP.

Went to Home Depot, got some wood. Went to Harbor Freight, got a free gift (5’X7’ tarp) . Oh, and a miter box.

Did a simple frame design with 45 degree angle cuts, and a small framed box behind that.

The only material(s) I can recommend for this part of the project is the two-way acrylic sheet.

Everything else will obviously vary based on the frame you want to build.

    Setup (Note free tarp!):

    Progress:

    Incorrectly measuring/cutting wood.

    0_1546976161808_pi frame cutting.jpg

    Assembling/securing frame.

This was irritating, as the cuts weren’t perfect, resulting in less than ideal alignment of the pieces. Oh well! We slapped some Gorilla Wood Glue on the edges, then sent some staples (yikes) into the corners to keep it all together. This oddly worked perfectly.

    0_1546975681868_pi frame 2.jpg

Once the glue dried, we hammered the staples all the way in, flipped it over, and were again, pleasantly surprised to see that it looked excellent. My dad sanded down the now front of the frame.

    Huzzah!

    0_1546975796810_pi frame final.jpg

Now that that was done, I had to make a box to hold the brains:

I (poorly) cut some wood, and just screwed it to the back of frame to accommodate the OUTER edges of the monitor.

Just pretend I didn’t split that one piece of wood.

    1_1546976227286_pi box 1.jpg

    2_1546976227286_pi box done.jpg

All I have to say about the box is “Good not great”.

    99.5% finished product:

    0_1546976392077_99.5 finished.jpg

    0_1546976507103_99.5 finished 2.jpg

I didn’t say 100% finished because if you look, you’ll see the blue clamps on the either side holding the monitor into the box. I haven’t quite figured out how to secure the monitor into the box yet. So any ideas/tips/tricks are welcome!

@bhepler We are the third owner of this house. The first owner never used it, the second owner used it once with their grandkids, and we have used it once in the two years we have been here. Our hot water heater isn’t big enough to fill it… stupid

    Hello,

I am a creator who starts learning Magic Mirror. I always appreciate and respect open source developers. I hope someday I will be able to contribute.

My 3 year old daughter likes to see a comic called Johnny Johnny Yes Papa on YouTube. So I made a simple application to have a conversation with Johnny Johnny.

Here is full video for this, https://youtu.be/ittQUTBhCGM

@mdhenriksen yeah that’s not it I’ve made it visible in all, I changed it a while ago :) that’s how I noticed but if I go through it with VNC no errors at all, it’s got to be how the web page is handling it, I’ve got the mmm-Hue-Lights erroring as well only when I view it from that but most of the time I’m using the VNC to view it anyway so no real big deal just annoying when I do 😂

    I’m using an evaluation Module - DLPDLCR2000EVM , about £100 UKP.

    Things to note:

I think it was a limited run, Farnell have been sold out for some time, and digikey’s stock is dropping. Resolution is LOW 640x360 Its designed for a BeagleBone Black, I used a Pi Zero W adapter board from MickMake on tindie, needs soldering though. It’s powered off a 5v wall-wart, no battery (though I think MickMake may be working on that) no enclosure no firmware customization, it boots to a bright splash screen and then you have to fiddle around sending I2C commands. Soldered in you have NO GPIO left over for anything at all Soldered in the usb ports are inaccesible the zero w is somewhat underpowered, currently I’ve got MM running in docker on another Pi while I develop… I think you should be able to run both on the same device There’s a very faint blue patch visible when all is black, seems to be a design fault, I returned one, but the second is the same.

All in all not perfect, but I’m used to that.

    @Ramez

I have tried to install the MagicMirror software from scratch in a raspberry pi zero w and I have not been able to, too many errors that I was not able to solve. In the end I found this image and I got it working. It works well, but not with very demanding modules, rather with the default modules and few others.

Then there is the problem that I can not update the image because I also get many errors. Anyway, I’m happy with the final result.
