@REDNAVE What type of mirror are you using? It’s not a 50/50 as mines is that and it is not as reflective as your one, so is it a 75/20 Pilkington Mirrorview? Thanks.

Hi! I have been following these projects for quite a while and decided it was finally time to create one of these smart mirrors. I have created a custom module for my Emby Media Server (I am a plugin developer over at emby.media) My mirror now connects to Emby and tells me about ‘nextup’ tv episodes and new movies available in my library to watch… cool! I’m going to install my custom Alexa skills as well so it will control my smart home just like the echos around the house. Tapping into Embys DLNA server, the mirror will start playback of media on all the devices around just like the echos do. I’m also going to add motion detection to the mirror to get it to come alive when someone is in front of it. I’m interested in the IpCam modules because I have also created a custom Alexa skill/Server which allows Alexa to describe people in Security Camera footage, by way of Microsoft Cognitive Sense API. When I ask Alexa who is at the door, it returns a string description of the person/people in the footage {Approx Age}/{Gender}/{Accessories}. I would also like to have the mirror show footage during this time as well. Here are some pics so far! the whole mirror is black coated so it has been painted black just the monitor cutout has been left free

for the first time i will controll the USB ports over a script(power on/off). For the next step i will use this one : Deutsches Forum

I wanted to add this in case anyone was going to make their own wood frame. It’s called a Kreg pocket tool, you can get it at Lowes for $40 it makes your joints and 45’s incredibly strong no nail holes to fill, no marks on your facing wood!! @lavolp3 Thank you very much :) It it mounted on the wall via a wall mount which is connected to the screen. The whole frame is connected to the screen through a frame made of wood. The DHT-22 as well as the PIR Sensor are located on the right, right behind the frame. I did not find a good solution on how to “hide” the PIR Sensor, so I though I should hide it a little bit.

Dear @jchan, the mirror is attached through 4 screws which I drilled through the glas. (make sure that you tape before drilling otherwise the glas will break). The wood is just plain wood from the local shop.

Since my original post, I’ve been tinkering a bit. I originally had the 2-way mirror on, but decided to remove it. Mainly because my wife said it looks like a medicine cabinet, which doesn’t belong in the kitchen. I took the mirror off and use it as a magic dashboard now.
