Hey everyone, I started updating my mirror the other day and thought I’d share what I built 2 years ago. I needed somewhere to put my stuff and hang some clothes, so why not a combo around a 19" old monitor First I created a box around the monitor, with a shelf and some aluminum pipes for hanging clothes. [image: alt text] A frame around the front to cover the edges of the monitor. [image: alt text] I just bought the new S7 back then so a NFC charger was a necessity. I was a big fan of the Pebble watches and backed all their projects so I also made a charger for the Core thingy that was the last thing that got cancelled on Kickstarter before Fitbit bought and “shut Pebble down”. [image: alt text] [image: alt text] [image: alt text] This is how I attached the oak-charger to the main module [image: alt text] Front panel with 1 USB for charging, 1 USB connected to the Pi and a sensor to turn on monitor. [image: alt text] Need to be able to hang it on the wall [image: alt text] Ready for some paint, oil and wiring [image: alt text] Happy with the result! [image: alt text] Time to fit the monitor and the touchscreen that I already put the film on. I have no pictures on that procedure, and that is good because I totally messed the film up so the mirror is now a little skew on some places and looks like the funny mirror house on the tivoli. @sdetweil Yeah the Pi-Top is pretty neat! It’s a bit cheaper to make your own enclosure and add your own screen/power button, but not by much… It really depends on how much time you want to spend on those parts.

Hi Marc How much did you pay for the “Glass Trösch” oneway-mirror? I live in Zurich too and thinking about building a smart mirror. Not exactly sure with frame I’m going to take. Nissedal or Ribba from Ikea. Cheers

@maxbachmann Touchfoil doesn’t work beneath the mirrorglass due to the metallic coating. Even the mirror supplier that was linked earlier says it has to be an overlay (i.e if you use a foil it should be on another layered glass over the mirror itself) Touchfoils are basically a sheet of transparent plastic with many really really thin wires running across the surface. Gives you around 98-99% transparency.

What modules did you use for weather and commute. You mentioned you list them, but I am missing the list.

@Mephiston2K We did check before final installation which way round they were supposed to go, because being 50/50 transmission it wasn’t obvious. We spoke to the supplier who assured us we had it mounted correctly. @rak It’s run by two Pi’s, one for each monitor, although we used split power supplies so only needed 2 sockets for the Pi’s & monitors.
