@shashank, on the non-touch use of a timer, I don’t have anything built in. Maybe it could be integrated with one of the voice recognition modules. I have an Amazon Echo nearby. It’d be cool to show the real-time status of Alexa timers, but I haven’t seen a way to do that.

@lucallmon said in First Build - 30" w/ custom frame and AlexaPi integration: @cyberphox https://github.com/alexa-pi/AlexaPi with https://github.com/dgonano/MMM-AlexaPi module. Can the Alexa wake word be modified to something specific like “Magic Mirror”?

@Chiumanfu yeah it works well. Once I figured out that I had the sensitivity and timeout options flipped, that is!! As you would imagine, the sensor is very directional – you need to be standing in front of the mirror for it be triggered, but it will pick up motion across its path well across the room. If the screen is fully off, the PIR sensor picks up motion early enough that the TV has a chance to come fully on by the time you walk up to the mirror.

I saw a post about a smart mirror and saw that it didn’t take many parts to assemble and decided to make one. I had an old monitor laying around (13x15), it was DVI however, so I did have to buy an adapter, but I found the monitor really useful as it has to external USB ports and two internal, in addition to the 4 the raspberry Pi has I have 8 total, and I got my raspberry pi from amazon in a kit. I also got my frame and 3mm, 2 way acrylic mirror from Amazon for my 16th birthday! Finished with what I want on the magic mirror. [image: 1498142778107-img_4384-resized.jpg] I used a 18x24 in. mirror with the 13x15in monitor. I had to figure out how to get the monitor to stay in the top right and make everything fit. I liked having the bigger mirror than monitor to have more room to actually have a mirror and for cord management. [image: 1498142840305-img_4385-resized.jpg] I used a type of cardboard from an old bulleting board my grandpa made and cut out the size of the monitor to fit it in. [image: 1498142905897-img_4398-resized.jpg] Here is the final of what the back looks like. [image: 1498142940143-img_4399-resized.jpg] I am putting the mirror on my dresser, and in the top drawer I put in a keyboard for easy access to make changes. [image: 1498143005690-img_4408-resized.jpg] and drilled a hole in the back of the dresser [image: 1498143029347-img_4409-resized.jpg] the cords behind the dresser [image: 1498143085297-img_4413-resized.jpg] Here are some pictures of the final project. Thanks to Michael for creating everything that makes this possible. I got mine off Amazon, but also lots available on ebay. Just search for “HDMI LCD Controller Board” there are lots of different options. I found one that just had the single hdmi output instead of multiple outputs to save space. You may need to email some of the sellers to check the board is compatible with your LCD panel. If it’s not they may suggest a similar one. Best option is to look at the part number on the back of the LCD panel, my screen was out of a Sony Vaio laptop but was a Hitachi LCD panel, I searched for "HDMI LCD Controller Board + ‘LCD part number’ " and that came up with a couple of results, make sure the resolution is correct as well.

@dvbit @lofgren used film on this mirror. I never used film so I can’t recommend any vendors to you. Perhaps someone else will. I think most people are using acrylic mirrors or glass mirrors. Glass mirrors are best, acrylic mirrors come next, and then film. Again, I’ve never used film but I understand it is a lot more work and perhaps difficult to manage, as well. Do a search right here in the forum for “what kind of mirror to use” and you should find plenty of advice
