@OrangeMirror the current docker setup will only work for multiple instances IF you use the MM_CONFIG_FILE environment variable to run instances off different config files, or the MM_PORT env variable to override the port if using the same config.js all the files will come from the ONE folder tree ~/magicmirror so this means you would have to setup multiple entries in the compose.yaml to launch multiple instances (with the different config parms) You have to change the container name too this is because all the DATA used by the container is external (on docker host filesystem) and not IN the container an example NOT using docker, but same idea here https://docs.magicmirror.builders/configuration/introduction.html#advanced-configuration-and-frequently-asked-how-to-configure-examples

@Peter said in Which Voice Control module is fit for me?: @E3V3A I learned from this forum that Jessie works better with MM than Stretch, thats why I use Jessie. Yeah, I never had any problem with Stretch, so I think that is just an artificial impression due to less info available, that is based on it. I haven’t seen any facts backing that up. Actually, as a distribution concerned, most stuff just works and what doesn’t is usually the problem of the user (me). No system works out-of-the-box unless you use some pre-compiled image. We hate those, don’t we!?

@E3V3A said in My result about voice control: a. disable/pause the music b. lower the volume significantly In a quiet environment, voice accuracy is nearly flawless. In a noisy environment, accuracy is significantly reduced. In a loud environment, accuracy is nearly non existent. :-/

the file needs to be config.js, the existing file config.js.sample is just a sample and will be ignored

Drill holes in the top and in the bottom for a chimney effect. Heat goes always upwards. You can check your temp easy with MMM-stats, it tells you the temp of your cpu and uptime and so on

@budwha There’s no difference installing the GA outside MM. MMM-Google Assistant uses an updated GA script to communicate with the MM module.

@dvcv said in Magic Mirror fire hazard.: I have a few modules installed aside from the default ones. Well, it really depends on the modules themselves. You could have 10 that have little affect on the Pi. However, you could have 1 or two that tax the Pi to it’s limits. I do have a heatsink but no fan. So how does the fan work? Is it constantly on or do you have it programmed to turn on after a certain temp. You can do it either way. Personally, I have mine on all the time. It keeps my Pi at a nearly constant 42°C. I prefer that to the temperature swings between it being on and off.

@ninjabreadman That is indeed not very simple. It was something I wanted to implement too, but it turned out to be a little more complicated than I initially thought, since the MagicMirror project does not directly support this. But it could be done, and if so a PR or even just an initial implementation would be awesome.

Just out of curiosity: Why would you need 180W output power in a smart mirror? This guy ( link ) uses a similar amp on his pi, but with less power.

Hi, yes this is exactly what I did for my house. First of all, i have a connected xiaomi wifi extension plugs, so plug 1 = my screen, plug 2 = the RPI3 when I say “OK Google turn on/off the screen”, it switches on/off the screen according to an http request (WARNING to local IPs on IFTTT) that i ve included on ifttt. Same thing for the RPI if I want to reboot or switch off or switch on (ssh commands via http requests). The only thing that I still can’t do, I would like to do is changing the profile with the great plugin profile switcher : http://192.168.0.136:8080/remote?action=NOTIFICATION¬ification=CURRENT_PROFILE&payload=“News” The issue is this is a local IP… I don’t know how to run a script from my server (opened to the internet) that could run this local http request :( is there any function in PHP?

@konradwalsh Hi Konrad. Although I have 5 panes of glass, I am still working on getting the config right on my first one. I have it running but am trying to get the MyNotes module working. I’m having some difficulties though :(

https://github.com/cowboysdude/MMM-NOAA also uses the Weather Underground API and it seems to be a very popular module with excellent support from the author

@tedzhu My $0.02: That page is long enough without adding images to it. I think the current system works fine. You browse the modules by reading the short description. When something catches your attention you click on it and are brought to the readme. The readme usually has a picture and all the information you need. If it doesn’t, that’s a shortcoming of the author, and even then, nothing is required of the author but merely recommended.

Hi, I’m in the process of building my first SM. Trying to familiarize myself with the coding and such. I would like to add inputs on SM screen when an input is seen by the PI. Inputs like “FENCE GATE OPENED” when the PI sees ‘true/faults’ on a certain input. Possibly several other inputs too, maybe one like ‘GARAGE DOOR OPEN’ until it’s closed. I would like the SM to turn ON the monitor even if it’s off at the time, possibly even a tone to alert you. Not sure where to look for this coding but would like some advise. Thanks!

@mbeiswenger Suggest you take the free TryGit course. You can also consult the Git documentation and ask questions here (search first!). In terms of collaborating, it depends if you will all be working on the same or different features. You will want at least one fork. Also, make your commits small and related (not “here is MM3.0” but “added optional config param capitalizeAll to newsfeed“). You can either share contributor access to a single branch, or all have them fork-your-fork and submit Pull Requests to your fork/branch. You shouldn’t need to modify .gitignore – it should already ignore the right files plus a lot of OS-specific cruft. If you ever intend on submitting your changes to the MM develop (not master) branch, see the contributing notes in Contributing.md.
