    Hi MagicMirror team, I wanted to share with the community my MagicMirror project featuring a completely custom-built LEGO frame! Hardware Setup: Display: Vertical monitor Computer: Initially Beelink (mini PC), now migrating to Dell OptiPlex D10U System: Ubuntu (Server → Desktop) PIR sensor for automatic screen on/off control via MQTT Implemented Modules: Clock & Calendar (with Italian custom calendar) Weather (Italian weather with hourly and daily forecasts) Compliments (motivational messages) News Feed (Italian news) Automatic screen control via PIR sensor and Node.js Unique Feature: The LEGO frame is completely customizable and modular. It includes: LEGO minifigures on top Colorful decorations on the sides with bricks from various collections Decorative elements (stars, clouds, stickers) Design that perfectly integrates into the home environment Technical Challenges Solved: MQTT integration for PIR control Italian weather modules configuration Optimization for vertical display Power management and automatic screen shutdown The project became not only functional but also a decorative element appreciated by the whole family. The LEGO frame makes the MagicMirror less “techy” and more accessible, especially for children.     @alexa123 as already stated Pi5 is kind of oversized. I had build up two identical mirrors - one for me and later on a second one (a clone) for a fried of mine. My own is on a Pi5/8GB which was always hot and the power supply was hot as well - which led to some major modifications in my mirror setup because I had to move the power supply out of the frame - which was not that easy, annoying and unsatisfying… The ONLY fact that IS useful and is an argument for the Pi5 is the really smooth integration of a NVME SSD disk which I had performed and am happy with. The fan on the pi5 is HUGE ! (NOT the „official Pi 5 fan“ tiny thingi which isn’t sufficient). Picture of fan The second mirror (clon) is software-wise nearly identical but is installed on a (spare) Pi4 which layed around so it was no problem to overhand it to my friend. This is performance/capacity wise identical and MUCH colder. The SD-card reliability problem on this Pi4 is solved with an USB-SSD-Stick. Today I might go for the Pi4 again… Good luck! Ralf

If you’re thinking of building your own smart mirror setup, you can actually make it look a lot cleaner and more “custom” by framing it with cut-to-size MDF panels or lightweight boards. That gives you a sleek finish and lets you easily mount LED strips or smart controllers behind the frame. For example, at MDF Direct, you can get MDF boards cut to your exact measurements — ideal for mirror frames, wall panels, or even bathroom cabinetry. If you want a moisture-resistant option, their moisture-resistant MDF is a solid choice for bathroom environments.     @schlomm I have two production MagicMirror systems with no shiny surface. I don’t NEED another mirror in the house! Lol 43in tv on a normal tv mount in the T connection of my halls Using a pi4 set up behind the top, and a usb camera for motion detection on top And a 50in tv in my office space which uses all its hdmi ports for different MagicMirror systems, w one running 24x7 I also usually have one running on my second monitor on my desktop

    @Mayank-Arora you need the pi0-2w at minimum and a fast sd card The google assistant module is no longer available Most of the MagicMirror modules for Spotify are display only, You need the raspotify system service to play ON the PI YouTube might work, but you have no voice control without GA

    Hi everyone! Recently i’ve found an old unused digital photo frame from my family. I was wandering if it is possible in some sorts of way to reuse it as hardware for a MagicMirror. Is it possible to install linux on the board? And if not, I would I be able to use the LCD display with something like a Raspberry Pi zero or similar? Thanks!! The chip serial is AM7331 and i’m not able to find a serial/model for the LCD display.     @UncleRoger – +1 on having a separate Magic Mirror instance for development (“dev instance”)! I have a small virtual machine running Magic Mirror where I can try out changes or new modules without disturbing my main instance. I don’t bother with a monitor, just display it on my desktop.

    @karsten13 Hello, I’ve given up. I’ve tried the following. I created a new image, currently only available for the Rock-F2. A Debian Bullseye Desktop LXDM display manager (Debian Xfce) without an X server. I’m currently using an RPi 3 again, and I’ve managed to get everything working. Thanks very much for your support.     @BKeyport OK, thanks for your viewpoint! Than I‘m on the right way - still works today :-) Temperature was 45°C today in the morning - was at 56° everytime before … So even passive cooling seems to be much better. Nice rest of weekeend to all of you. Ralf

    Very nice. I have done something similar, although I prefer the Pi 3 Model A+. It’s slightly bigger than the zero 2w but is clocked faster (1.4 GHz vs 1) and has a full-size HDMI port. (they both use essentially the same SoC). Note I have historically had problems with running out of memory running electron in the 512 MB limited memory space - but using dietPI has really help stability
