Hi MagicMirror team, I wanted to share with the community my MagicMirror project featuring a completely custom-built LEGO frame! Hardware Setup: Display: Vertical monitor Computer: Initially Beelink (mini PC), now migrating to Dell OptiPlex D10U System: Ubuntu (Server → Desktop) PIR sensor for automatic screen on/off control via MQTT Implemented Modules: Clock & Calendar (with Italian custom calendar) Weather (Italian weather with hourly and daily forecasts) Compliments (motivational messages) News Feed (Italian news) Automatic screen control via PIR sensor and Node.js Unique Feature: The LEGO frame is completely customizable and modular. It includes: LEGO minifigures on top Colorful decorations on the sides with bricks from various collections Decorative elements (stars, clouds, stickers) Design that perfectly integrates into the home environment Technical Challenges Solved: MQTT integration for PIR control Italian weather modules configuration Optimization for vertical display Power management and automatic screen shutdown The project became not only functional but also a decorative element appreciated by the whole family. The LEGO frame makes the MagicMirror less “techy” and more accessible, especially for children. @alvesge said in Order for Switzerland: MirroView 50/50 Where are you going to buy the mirror? I have the normal MirroView and it isn’t working very well because the room is too bright. Since I am already living in Germany I could probably order it by myself. Just need to know where to get it from as I couldn’t find any shop that sells it online.

I have improved my artistic skills lately with hand drawing and with using photoshop for manipulating pictures. But i think i have to move further to digital drawing, i have watched many photoshop tutorials about drawing and painting but i just cant because everytime i move my mouse, shit happens. I decided to buy drawing tablet! What is the best kind of tablet to draw? (Gimme the prices as well as its function) Beside do you think XP-Pen Artist15.6 can be a good drawing tablet? https://www.amazon.com/Artist15-6-Drawing-Graphics-Battery-free-pressure/dp/B077PCCC7R

@johnny_chicago I would just be sure to cover the rear of the mirror with something to block the light from shining through. That would surely ruin your experience.

Yeah, although I love the RPi support community, for example the ASUS Tinker Board S look very similar in both formfactor, price and spec’s but cheaper. The Asus TB S has: 2 GB RAM 16 GB on-board SD GB Ethernet 1.8 GHz CPU 4K HD (AFAICR)

Everything just looks really small. But that’s just how I want ut. I’ll be using a 55 inch screen on 4K, so the text should be quite ‘large’ when you stand 1 meter (3 feet) from the screen. I am mostly doing it for the increased real estate. Also using OLED, so black is black and I don’t get a square on the mirror.

Hi Guys, I’ve tried searching for 2 way mirror in Australia from local glass company and find it they are extremely hard to find or they are super expensive. so thought to try my luck searching it online and found this seller from Aliexpress - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/600mm-x-600mm-x-3-0mm-Acrylic-PMMA-Plexiglass-See-Thru-2-Way-Mirrored-Sheet/32595536158.html?spm=2114.10010108.1000013.16.4f614224Wj0Ow9&traffic_analysisId=recommend_2088_10_90158_iswistore&scm=1007.13339.90158.0&pvid=321801a1-0445-47a0-a127-ee46a046d68c&tpp=1 has anyone tried buying it from this seller? and how’s the mirror quality like if to use to build magic mirror? if anyone had build one with sourcing their mirror online, could you provide me url to mirror site.

Has anyone of you here successfully implemented an IR touch frame/touch screen overlay in your smart mirror? If so, then where did you get your IR frame (a model number would be really helpful) from? Also, what OS is your Raspberry Pi running on, and did you have to create your own driver/software for the IR frame to work? I ordered a 24" touch frame (Model number: XT-IR-24-10) from AliExpress. After reading some threads here involving IR touch frames, I started questioning if it is actually doable. The supplier told me that their IR frame is not compatible with Raspberry Pi, and that I would have to create my own software if I want it to work on Android. Luckily, I was able to cancel my order before they could ship it. Now I’m being careful not to jump the gun again and want to make sure my plan will work. Thank you all in advance.

@domdom No unfortunately I don’t have any technical characteristics on my invoice. The reflected image is indeed darker than a conventional mirror. It looks great in my living room but may not be ideal as a bathroom mirror. (You can see my mirror in this post) The transmission index is rather low too. The image seen by the webcam behind the mirror is barely bright enough to allow motion detection, but face recognition is impossible. (I only use motion detection).

While I work in IT these days, I still do and have been and electrical engineer. Safety is obviously the key here, I would certainly not be willing to put that in my kids room for example without taking the proper precautions. Plastic sheeting is not a proper precaution. You can buy cheap cases from fleabay that would do the trick, or buy a sheet of 3mm Perspex and manufacture a case using hot glue and a dremmel to cur the holes as required. To fix the PCB to the Perspex use standoffs as already mentioned, which also cost pennies. In many countries, insurance policies will not pay out if there is an incident with modified devices unless you have them certified by a qualified engineer. In most cases this does not cost much, but it is something to think about.

yeah thats exactly what I mean :) I thought I would center the monitor like you said, however I don’t know how settings for the touch frame are changed because using a 32’’ touch frame with a 31,5 inches screen in standard the touch should be a little bit off Or do I miss something?

Nice. I added one Vendor for Germany. I did not use them (for now), they were reccomended by glancr.os after several tests. Prices look very fair.

I’ve done this very thing using a microwave radar sensor instead. Positioned it behind the glass and used the standard PIR module which works without any additional configuration (just need to tell it the correct GPIO pin as standard). It was a RCWL-0516 sensor and there’s loads on ebay.

i had a similar issue, connecting RPI with HDMI vs. VGA had different behavior. To get my PIR working the way i want it, i had to use a HDMI->VGA Adapter and connected the display by VGA. Dont worry, VGA also supports FullHD Resolution. See alse: https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/6410/which-monitor-supports-standby-sleep-poweroff-wakeup-via-vga-hdmi-commands

@Alex Hi Alex, I use the Mirona high refelctive grey 6mm. From my site it’s the best mirror for this. I also had a Mirona High refelctive (without grey) but there i had some problems: you see the Display case/frame though the mirror and the reflection was very bad (non existent)… Marcel
