Hi MagicMirror team, I wanted to share with the community my MagicMirror project featuring a completely custom-built LEGO frame! Hardware Setup: Display: Vertical monitor Computer: Initially Beelink (mini PC), now migrating to Dell OptiPlex D10U System: Ubuntu (Server → Desktop) PIR sensor for automatic screen on/off control via MQTT Implemented Modules: Clock & Calendar (with Italian custom calendar) Weather (Italian weather with hourly and daily forecasts) Compliments (motivational messages) News Feed (Italian news) Automatic screen control via PIR sensor and Node.js Unique Feature: The LEGO frame is completely customizable and modular. It includes: LEGO minifigures on top Colorful decorations on the sides with bricks from various collections Decorative elements (stars, clouds, stickers) Design that perfectly integrates into the home environment Technical Challenges Solved: MQTT integration for PIR control Italian weather modules configuration Optimization for vertical display Power management and automatic screen shutdown The project became not only functional but also a decorative element appreciated by the whole family. The LEGO frame makes the MagicMirror less “techy” and more accessible, especially for children. @mdhenriksen all depends what you are after if the op has a weak back light display and is a bright room and also wants to play movies and so on then 50/50 for anything other than the above 70/30 would be fine and ok for watching videos

Hey guys, I have finally got the RPi up and running with all the modules I want for my mirror. The next stage is finding and disassembling a 32 inch TV so that I can have a full length mirror. Does anyone have experience with this? I am looking at getting a cheap 2nd hand from Gumtree or similar (I’m in Australia) but wondered if anyone had a guide for stripping a TV? I’m worried as I have 0 electrical knowledge and am a little worried about an electric shock or something… Thanks in advance guys!

I am wondering if someone here has already dealt with a Samsung 2017/2018 line LED TV and image settings for MagicMirror? I ask because I am not a novice with TVs, but the default image menu doesn’t look to give me enough options to increase the brightness as I expected… :expressionless_face: Perhaps I’ve got to access any hidden/service menu to do that? And if yes how EXACTLY ?

@boblazer said in Where do you find LCD's that are larger than 7"?: One other side question. Has anyone tried splitting up the interface into multiple displays? Instead of using a giant 42" TV to display the time and a status message maybe you could use a few ~7" displays as second and third monitors and display it that way. I’m not sure how you would blend each lcd screen into the surrounding background of the mirror though. I built a mirror with two 24" displays using a Raspberry Pi and a Fitlet. I considered using the Fitlet to drive both displays, but I couldn’t find a way to guarantee one instance of MagicMirror per display. In the end it was easier to drive each monitor separately. If you’re willing to go Windows, you might be able to pull it off. I’m adding a third monitor to that mirror in February. Wish me luck! (also: wait for large sales at Amazon, NewEgg, MicroCenter, BestBuy and the like. I picked up a 47" LCD monitor for like $87 on Black Friday)

@mdhenriksen the way my bathroom is set up lends it self to turning on when i’m looking to utilize it. The sink it will be above is just before the shower. I have been thinking about finding a nice bluetooth speaker (with mic) to use with it, and tapping into google voice or something. itd be nice to have it be able to reach to spotify for music.

@dazza120 - I use black construction paper. I cut it to fit the exposed areas of the glass and the monitor holds it in place.

@mwel1977 - You should be good with just the emitters exposed. The easy way to test it out is to rig it up to your Pi and prototype your frame cutouts with a piece of thin cardboard. Start by connecting everything and making sure you get signal and the module works. Block everything with the cardboard and verify that you have blocked the signal. Then cut out holes for the tubes and try again. If it works, use the cardboard as the template for your cutouts in your frame. If it doesn’t cut out a hole for the silver thing and try that way.

@pnizet Still quite pricey for my taste but I’d love to see a infor-board project based on it. So go ahead and don’t forget to present it here :smiling_face_with_open_mouth: Btw, it’s not my topic. @Gooral was the one starting this thread. :slightly_smiling_face:

From a small bit of research it seems that dielectric glass IS the top solution for a smart mirror, but just to complete the picture, it seems much more expensive than usual spy glass. Does anyone have any experience?
