@cruunnerr said in stronger Raspberry Pi 3 Alternatives: Does anyone know if it would be possible to use MagicMirror on a x86 system and uses external GPIOs? Well, it’s certainly possible to run MM on a x86 system. I haven’t a clue about external GPIO usage but it looks promising. For now, I use my mirror for some things and my Alexa for everything else.

I use the Amazon Fire tablet HD 10 and when I tried to connect with Magic Mirror, it was not working at all because I did not see anything different. I didn’t know if this had something to do with my tablet or it was because of Magic Mirror. So to test, I tried with different tablets of the iPad generations list(I borrowed them from others). Some of them worked while others didn’t.g. Any suggestion?

My mirror is working with the v2.2.0 MMM but I can’t get the 3.5mm jack to drive my speaker/headphones. I reverted back to raspian OS and it works fine. I haven’t seen any other posts on this.

I would strongly recommend that you use audio out from the monitor compared to the audio out on the raspberry (it suffers from a lot of signal noise). Using BT makes it digital and you rely more on the hardware of the BT speakers/amp.

I tried installing MM on tinker board and installed face recognition module but it fails at the point when facial recognition(using opencv) starts, suddenly shuts down the system(i.e tinker board) Cause of this issue is yet not identified. Any help on this will be appreciated

Depending on the setup, it may actually be easier to have a monitor that’s the same size you’d use for a rectangular MM, and then block the corners off with either a wide frame or drywall if it’s truly inset. From there, you can just use CSS to “bump” modules left, right, up, or down on the screen so they’re positioned right into the curves of the glass. As long as it’s not gonna be changed a whole lot, that might work just fine also…

I also used wood glue, so I think the mirror frame should hold fine. Thank you for your suggestions, I agree the french cleat is probably overkill so I’ll probably go with a keyhole or a lag bolt, depending on where I end up putting it. As a complete beginner this has been very helpful!

@yawns said in IR touch frame: I picked this up again and checked with “Peau Productions”. This is their positive feedback: Hello Stefan, Yes this diagram looks like an ideal smartmirror setup. Usually the monitor is only using the upper half of the mirror. We can certainly get you a custom frame to match but I will need to know your exact Length x Width dimms and your diagonal dimm. I will also need to know how many touch points you would like supported “2,6, 12, 32, 50+” touch points. Once I have this info I can get you a mechanical drawing and a quote. Any other questions, please let me know. Best regards Hopefully I find some spare time during christmas break to find some measurements. that sounds interesting if it is not super expensive i might get this as well as my monitor will be also just a quarter of the mirror

Hello, I recently decided to do a magic mirror projects as I had an old monitor laying around. It won’t be a big mirror, about 40cm x 40cm, but I’m having trouble finding an appropriate mirror or glass. I went to two places which work with glass and at both it was the first time they were hearing of a one-way mirror. So I’m kind of stuck to buying something online. I was wondering what would be some good places to look into which would ship to Bulgaria?

@TGBB No, it won’t work. The reflective coating on the back of your cheap mirror is an all-or-nothing thing. If you scrape it off, you’re basically turning your mirror into a window. Do some searching for a glass manufacturer. I know there are several people on this forum from the UK. Surely they can point you in the right direction. Worst case scenario, you can talk to your local glass shop / glazier and ask them to broker the purchase for you. That way you can depend upon their expertise in the industry to source the mirror for you.

Check your local glass shops if they order glass from Pilkington (www.pilkington.com) and ask about pricing on Mirropane and Mirroview. Mirroview costs over here around 1100sek/sqm (thats about 130usd/sqm) but do note, that is just material costs, if you want it cut to shape, smoothed edges etc it will cost more.
