@oldversions That’s nice. With some right-angle plugs, you’d be good to go with that.

Note: Ideally I would like to order 18 x 24 or 24 x 36. Larger would be better as anything smaller in my opinion wouldn’t make a good mirror.

I’ve used the HDMI on/off before and my TV brings up a blue no signal box. Is it possible to time the blank screen saver to come on/off at certain times?

@Chiumanfu said in Shopping list off Amazon: I would add a USB Microphone https://www.amazon.com/Kinobo-Microphone-Desktop-Recognition-Software/dp/B00IR8R7WQ/ And a PIR Sensor https://www.amazon.com/PIR-motion-sensor-HC-SR501-Arduino/dp/B00L9GKN3I/ If I was to do it again, I would call your local glass shops first. I got the same acrylic mirror from Amazon and no matter how careful I was with the frame, it flexes and create a funhouse mirror effect. I called around and the first glass shop I contacted had glass two-way mirror for roughly the same price. What are you planning to do with the acrylic cement I bought a real two way mirror and it was not cheap… BUT worth it :)

@bhepler Thanks for your feedback. I’ll be sure to check out Parts Express. In the meantime I did get a cheap set of speakers off amazon and will attempt disassembly for my cabinet. I may end up just modifying the cases they’re in rather than completely disassembling them though. And if all that fails I’ll look at doing a direct build off of parts from Parts Express.

Hi, I have currently purchaced a 32 inch IR frame (Link) with an Android Box (Link) and was planning to connect them together as the controls for my SmartMirror. However, When i connect the two the Android box (Which runs full android, like any tablet or phone) does not seem to recognize or detect the IR Touch Frame. I have installed the provided app that I was told to do and is supposed to set up/calibrate the frame but this does not recognize the IR touch frame at all. I have separately tested the frame on my windows laptop and it works well. Any help is appreciated as this did cost quite a bit and for it not to work will be devastating!

Once you have Linux installed just follow the MM install instructions… https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror Manual Installation Download and install the latest Node.js version. Verison 6 curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_6.x | sudo -E bash - sudo apt-get install -y nodejs OR Verison 8 curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_8.x | sudo -E bash - sudo apt-get install -y nodejs THEN: Clone the repository and check out the master branch: git clone https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror Enter the repository: cd ~/MagicMirror Install the app: npm install Run the app: npm start Important: npm start does not work via SSH, use DISPLAY=:0 nohup npm start & instead. This starts the mirror on the remote display. IF you get any errors search this forum or Google your error to see how to fix… Gotta go to work, Have a good day!!!

@SpecialRob Pictures certainly are better than words. After all, they take up more disk space.

@yawns Thanks! Yeah that second link seems more or less exactly the same as what I’m trying to do. Looks like it has validated my approach.

This is a carpentry question really and a matter of choice. IF you have glue that is very good like Titebond glue for wood then yes you could glue and clamp it. This is a preferred method for those who do not want screw or nail holes to show…BUT if you don’t get it perfectly square that could be a problem… You could also screw your frame together… or nail. You could also do both…glue and screw/nail it. Any of those combinations would work…
