Hi MagicMirror team, I wanted to share with the community my MagicMirror project featuring a completely custom-built LEGO frame! Hardware Setup: Display: Vertical monitor Computer: Initially Beelink (mini PC), now migrating to Dell OptiPlex D10U System: Ubuntu (Server → Desktop) PIR sensor for automatic screen on/off control via MQTT Implemented Modules: Clock & Calendar (with Italian custom calendar) Weather (Italian weather with hourly and daily forecasts) Compliments (motivational messages) News Feed (Italian news) Automatic screen control via PIR sensor and Node.js Unique Feature: The LEGO frame is completely customizable and modular. It includes: LEGO minifigures on top Colorful decorations on the sides with bricks from various collections Decorative elements (stars, clouds, stickers) Design that perfectly integrates into the home environment Technical Challenges Solved: MQTT integration for PIR control Italian weather modules configuration Optimization for vertical display Power management and automatic screen shutdown The project became not only functional but also a decorative element appreciated by the whole family. The LEGO frame makes the MagicMirror less “techy” and more accessible, especially for children. UPDATE! From a quick search I have done I decided that it is better to connect arduino and led strip on the same power supply. My led strip is a 3m ws2812b neopixel with 30pixels/meter which consume 60mA/pixel in full brightness so (60*90)/1000=5.4A. The power supply I am using is 5V - 6A so I think it anough for both since arduino’s only job is to send data to led strip. Please If someone has better knowledge of electricity correct me. Thank you.

@Reif frame has an external connection box. for HDMI connections, don’t know how big it is. one is 5 inches tall https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062213/ but maybe some are smaller https://www.techradar.com/news/the-samsung-one-connect-box-is-back-for-2021-but-something-needs-to-change the one I have on my 2017 82in tv is fairly small, thin [image: 1662811089494-20220910_064727-resized.jpg]

@Fozi I’m using the psu that came with the RPi 3B+. I have no extension cables. The only things I have attached is the HDMI monitor, Bluetooth keyboard and the SD chip. I wouldn’t think that would be too much for standard psu I’ll take a look at Amazon and get something with a little more umph. Thanks all for the lessons. Dennis

@N6NG You might also want to try pololu.com if you are looking to connect to the header on your existing Pi. This is link to their connector page Pololu Connectors

@sdetweil It only runs a patched version of stretch right now. I am able to do the project I was wanting to do with it… at $55 it is a little pricey and a LOT more work to get running debian, but it is doing the job. Finally found a wireless adapter for the Libre and it is rock steady… Only thing I do not like is I can not seem to get it to boot from a usb drive has to be from sd card… Fun little learning experience…

@Radu_Stancu I would really like to have a copy of your module. I’ve been working with the code you posted at the beginning of this topic thread and I’ve gotten tap added. But the wheel just crashes my flick. I’m building a mirror for my Dad and I’d like to surprise him with one he can control with the flick. It would really impress him. I hope you are still checking in on this magicmirror builders forum.

@anthem212 well there are three commands to turn off the output vcgencmd dpms these two turn off the HDMI port, NOT the monitor/tv and cec-client this turns off the monitor/tv IF it supports the cec command(correctly) and then you would need a people sensor, most use use infrared, as it’s ‘easy’. there are modules that put all this together. search here for MMM-PIR Now to get your speed requirements will be a little harder. I use TV’s for my two main mirror systems. 43 and 55 in. one supports cec, the other doesn’t. when I turn off the HDMI port on both, they put up a big NO INPUT screen , and power off after 15 minutes. that is energy star compliant. but you can’t turn them on via software if it supports cec, then maybe you can turn off/on via software. mine is inconsistent. always can turn on, but not off on is the same as pushing the button, takes 15 seconds, displays the product logo and all that. I gave up, and just hide the mm content and leave the TV’s on. the one in the hall I call the nightlight! I also use a webcam for motion detection, instead of pir, cause that’s what I had at the time as yours is a 4k tv, I’m guessing it supports cec install the cec-utils package on pi sudo apt install cec-utils this also only works on my pi 4. not pi3.

It looks like there are different firmware features. Depending on the hardware. Great thx Samsung. Now I have to find out when this option is available. I’m not really willing to spend 500€ for a picture frame. Then I can rather buy a monitor and have a nice wooden frame built by a carpenter.
